Guidance Office & Counseling
Our guidance counselors are always eager to help students in anyway they can. If students have questions or concerns about their learning experience at OSCA, they can rely on our supportive counseling team to guide them in the right direction. Counselors are available every Thursday during lunch for "Open Counseling". Students may drop in to ask questions or get help without an appointment from 12:05-1:05 every Thursday.
Parent/Teacher Conferences:
Parent/Teacher Conferences are held Monday, Tuesday, Thursdays, and Fridays at 12:40-1:10. To schedule a Parent/Teacher Conference please call or email Ms. Shirley Hill. Prior to requesting a Parent/Teacher Conference we ask that you please call or email the teacher as a conference may not be required.
Scholarship Postings:
Seniors there will be no more scholarship announcements done on the morning announcements. All scholarships will be placed on the Connect site for your review. If you have trouble accessing Connect, please see your guidance counselor.
Requesting Transcripts:
To request a transcript, students must first complete a transcript request form. If the student needs a letter of recommendation to accompany the transcript then a personal resume should be attached. Students can create a resume using Prep HQ. They are also encouraged to ask teachers for letters of recommendation. Each O.C.S.A. student will receive 5 free transcripts. Any additional requests above five will cost $2.00 per transcript. It will take approximately 5 school days to receive your transcript. Should you require your transcripts to be mailed, you must provide a legal sized envelope with the address of the college as well as 2 first class stamps, along with your request. Final transcript requests must be made one week prior to graduation. Be sure to include a addressed envelope with proper postage. Keep in mind transcripts can only be processed when all graduation data is input at the district level at the end of June. We will gladly send transcripts to colleges and scholarship organizations.

Grade Point Average (G.P.A.):
As a student, knowing your GPA is essential in planning for post-secondary education and scholarship opportunities. GPA's are used by colleges and universities during the admissions process as a general requirement. Unweighted GPA's are based on a 4.0 scale and weighted GPA's are based on a 5.0 scale. Students will receive weighted credit for taking Honors, Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment Classes when they attain a grade of C/70 or better. All district high schools adhere to the state adopted scale for grading and reporting pupil progress.
Unweighted Scale
Grade Percent Point Value Definition
A 90-100 4.0 Outstanding Progress
B 80-89 3.0 Above Average Progress
C 70-79 2.0 Average Progress
D 60-69 1.0 Lowest Progress
F 0-59 0 Failure
Weighted Scale (Honors, AP and DE classes)
Grade Percent Point Value Definition
A 90-100 5.0 Outstanding Progress
B 80-89 4.0 Above Average Progress
C 70-79 3.0 Average Progress
D 60-69 1.0 Lowest Progress
F 0-59 0 Failure
Grade Classification:
The following classification system applies to high school students:
Freshman (9th Grade): Promotion or placement from 8th grade.
Sophomore (10th Grade): 5 credits are needed for promotion to this level in August, 8 credits in January.
Junior (11th Grade): 11 credits are needed for promotion to this level in August, 14 credits in January.
Senior (12th Grade): 18 credits are needed for promotion to this level in August, 21 credits in January.
Grade Forgiveness:
If you earn a “D” or an “F” in a course, you may repeat the course to improve your skills, raise your grade, and increase your grade point average. However, credit for the course will only be awarded once, with the higher of the two grades being used to determine the GPA. Students must earn a “C” in the repeated course to earn grade forgiveness.
Failure of a Class:
If a student fails a class, it is that student’s responsibility to sign-up to re-take that class. Failure to do so could endanger graduation! See your guidance counselor for options to make-up credit.
