Orchestra Department
Sixth grade students will study violin, viola, cello, or double bass in the 6th Grade Beginner’s Orchestra. Advanced sixth graders may join the Middle School Orchestra upon the director’s recommendation. In addition to string orchestra, high school string players may also perform with the OCSA Symphonic Orchestra. String students at OCSA participate fully in Florida Orchestra Association events and are active performers in our community.

Audition
If you are interested in attending OCSA and participating in the orchestral strings program, please be prepared to perform two contrasting movements or pieces (no more than 5 minutes each) on your primary instrument. In addition, sight-reading, aural, and rhythmic skills may be assessed.
Sixth grade students will be selected based on their potential for success, academic background and prepared audition. These students do not need to have previous experience on an orchestra instrument. They may audition on recorder, piano, or voice for entrance in the orchestra program, but will be required to rent or purchase an orchestra instrument if accepted.
Applicants will have an interview with a faculty member. All activities will be evaluated based on student’s age, grade, and experience level.
